Wayne Gretzky

Wayne Gretzky, known simply as “The Great One,” is the NHL's all-time leading scorer and widely considered the greatest hockey player ever to play the game. Over a 20-year career with the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and New York Rangers, he won four Stanley Cups, nine MVP awards, and set more than 60 NHL records, many of which still stand. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999.

Gretzky and his wife, Janet, founded the Wayne Gretzky Foundation in 2002 to give less-fortunate youth the opportunity to experience hockey, providing equipment, ice time, and access to the sport for kids who otherwise couldn't afford it. The foundation has partnered with organizations like Hockey Canada on programs such as “Future Team Canada,” which rewards youth hockey teams for character and sportsmanship rather than wins and losses.

In 2000, Westcoast Sports Associates honored Wayne Gretzky with the Roy Firestone Award for a career of on-ice excellence matched by a genuine commitment to expanding access to sport for young people.
