Starz Foundation Starz Foundation launched City Starz, a program designed to reach deep within under-served, inner-city communities to provide residing children with the opportunity to participate in something bigger than the activities of the city streets. Offering access to the alternative sport of lacrosse and a mentor program, City Starz provides optimism, hope, and guidance while setting the framework for a "brighter future." With the support of WSA, the Starz Foundation was able to assist players with 51 full scholarships to overnight lacrosse camps in San Diego and Sonoma, as well as 27 full scholarships to local day camps in the summer of 2008. WSA also provided funding for 30 children to attend four different lacrosse camps in the summer of 2007. These camps not only offer instruction designed to improve a player's skills, but present athletes with a unique opportunity to interact with peers from an array of socioeconomic and academic environments. Thanks to the support of WSA, these kids traveled to overnight camps outside their inner-city communities, allowing them to experience things they had never before seen or known existed. Players were also given the opportunity to form personal connections with coaches who acted as positive role models. The support Westcoast Sports Associates provided has enabled the Starz Foundation to accomplish its mission to broadly support the development of lacrosse in the western U.S. by reaching into under-served communities and support student-athletes pursuing their lacrosse and collegiate goals.
