Santa Ana (CA) Parks and Recreation Department

Beginning in 2000, WSA has funded the following programs in Santa Ana, for the Santa Ana Parks and Recreation Department:

  • El Salvador Park - boys baseball - program designed to teach 18 teams about teamwork, sportsmanship, and goal setting for ages 5-18. Money goes toward staffing, chin guards, chest protectors, face masks, throat protectors, catchers helmets, catchers gloves, RIF safety baseballs, batting tees and bats.
  • Memorial Pool and Santa Ana High School - junior aquatics - 105 boys and girls ages 5-17 who compete throughout Southern California, representing the City of Santa Ana; money goes toward staffing the summer swimming programs, female swimsuits, male swimsuits, swim caps, embroidery pieces, trophies and awards, snacks.
  • Thornton Park - girls softball - program that serves 32 teams of children ages 4-14. The program is designed to teach the fundamentals of softball while developing team skills. Money goes toward instruction fees, chin guards, chest protectors, face masks, throat protectors, catchers helmets, equipment team bags, catch net, big league drag nail, and T-Ball tees.
  • Jerome Center - boys boxing - serves 200 students ages 6-18 and teaches boxing fundamentals and teamwork. Funding has gone toward headgear, jump ropes, heavy bag, heavy bag wheel, leather heavy bag, water heavy bag, no spin heavy bag chain, speed bags, speed bag swivels, double end bag, punch mitts, super body protector, bag gloves, groin protectors, canvas ring cover, boxing ring padding.
