Future Stars Basketball Camp Every August since 2000, WSA has been sponsoring and sending up to 175 kids from the L.A. and Orange County park districts to four-day basketball camps in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. These camps offer boys and girls between the ages of 8 to 17 the opportunity to improve their basketball skills and learn good sportsmanship in a structured and supportive environment. The participants are supervised and coached by a roster of numerous local college and high school basketball coaches, with the emphasis not only on individual skills but team cooperation. In the summer of 2008, WSA again sponsored 160 kids at the "Future Stars Youth Basketball Camp," located at Century High School in Santa Ana. The camp was led by Century High School Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Greg Coombs, a previous recipient of the Orange County Coach of the Year Award. The attendees were recruited from the various recreation centers throughout the city's Youth Sports Program who normally would not have had the financial resources to attend on their own.
