Hollenbeck Police Activities League
Hollenbeck Police Activities League (PAL) believes that all youth, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, should have the opportunity to learn and engage in activities and sports that are not common within their social circle, geographic area or financial reach. It is these activities that will become life lasting memories and provide experiences that create well rounded individuals. All sports activities emphasis the PAL concepts of discipline, respect, responsibility, hard work and sportsmanship. Through these activities, law enforcement officers become friends, mentors and role models while providing character-building activities in a well-supervised and safe setting.
Westcoast Sports Associates has partnered with the Hollenbeck Police Activities League to support an indoor soccer program for children who live in a low-income housing project in Boyle Heights. The children play in a gym located within the Estrada Courts Community Center. This past season, they had 240 boys and girls playing on 24 teams. The ages of the children ranged from 6 to 15 years old. The children played in one of three divisions based on age. The two younger divisions are co-ed. The soccer program was administered under the direction of two LAPD Peace Officers.
